Scary times, as uncertainty abounds with this constant onslaught of our society’s excesses of anger, hatred, and bigotry.
This menacing storm of darkness and fear has run amok amongst us. Yet still, we feverishly fuel our own paranoias with these fires of fear, bigotry and hate.
How effortlessly we let them sweep us up, into the chaotic swells of our own unabridged fears.
We find ourselves doing behaviors we would never do in front of our own mothers or fathers, yet we eagerly join this chorus of darkness denouncing, and hating anyone that looks, acts, or dares to pray differently than us.
And we shamelessly do it with our own children at our sides, And in doing so, we are also condemning them to a future of fear and hate.We excuse these outrageous behaviors, acts of obscenity’s and other dark deeds by our neighbors, our friends, and our own family’s because “they are on our side”
We do all of this because we are simply afraid, afraid of our own self-induced fears. Fears that we never dare look at, we never ever acknowledge them. For if we do, we risk seeing that same darkness in our own souls.
Fear lurks in the dark, hiding in plain sight. It’s growing stronger as we grow weaker. Fear is rotting our souls from the inside out, until it finally overwhelms even the strongest of hearts.
But hear my words brothers, and sister’s, fear isn’t invincible. It has one great weakness. “It can’t exist in the light.” It can’t exist because fear is a just a shadow. One cast in the doubt and darkness that resides in our own minds.
It is nothing but a myth, a phantom, one that can’t exist in the light. And friend, believe me when I say “that the truth is the light”. The truth of our own power over our inner darkness.
These fears are just thoughts of things that could be, rarely are they real. But we will never believe that, no we have to believe they are real. Because if we don’t then we have to ask ourselves, “Who we are?” We have to ask ourselves, are we a faucet that fills others souls. That helps them find fuller and better lives? Or are we that drain, which just siphons off the best of others, simply for our own gluttony?
So, the next time you are feeling racist, bigoted, entitled, superior, or any of the myriad of terrible words that we wrap in pretty sentences, try to consider this little bit of truth. “Where and when you were born” are the biggest factors in what kind of life you will have.
“Be the faucet, not the drain.”
